UK wind power hits record high

UK wind energy generation hit a new high of over 15GW on Friday 8 February, according to RenewableUK citing National Grid data. Some 15.32GW was generated by wind power between 12.15pm and 1.45pm, providing 36% of Britain’s electricity demand. The previous record was 15.04GW set on 18 December 2018, R-UK said. RenewableUK executive director Emma Pinchbeck said: “At one of the coldest times of the year, when we need it most, wind is generating over a third of Britain’s power needs, setting a new clean energy record.

Gresham House appoints new Managing Director of Forestry

Gresham House, a specialist alternative asset manager, has appointed Olly Hughes as Managing Director, Forestry. Hughes has over 20 years of experience working in the finance sector with a focus on real assets strategies. He joins Gresham House from Oxford Capital Partners where he was Head of Infrastructure. During the five years under his leadership, the infrastructure and real assets under management grew from just short of GBP20 million to over GBP300 million. Prior to Oxford Capital, Hughes was Managing Director and founder at Vigor Renewables. He was also formerly Chief Executive Officer of an investment banking joint venture between Devonshire Capital and Kiatnakin Finance and Securities for 5 years. He started his career with Baring Brothers then ING Barings where he spent over a decade in Asia focusing on designing and developing asset backed transaction structures across various regulatory jurisdictions.
