The use of sawn softwood in the UK is expected to rise by a further 2% in 2017, to reach 9.6 million cubic metres.

The UK is second only to Germany in its consumption of sawn softwood in Europe.

Steady increases in consumption of sawn softwood underpin the strength in the market for homegrown timber by an active sawmilling sector. Homegrown production has risen by nearly 8% over the past two years, and is now 3.7 million cubic metres.
