Recent heatwave helps FIM’s solar sites reach record levels

The recent heatwave we have experienced in the UK has helped break a number of UK and FIM solar records, and highlights the rapid and successful deployment of this crucial renewable energy technology.

For about an hour on 30 June 2018, solar panels across the UK, including over 30MW of sites managed by FIM, became the No. 1 source of electricity, with a share of more than 27% of the energy supply mix.

At the end of May 2018, there was a total of 12.8GW of solar capacity in the UK, whereas only a decade ago, solar contributed almost nothing to the UK electricity supply.

Generation across FIM’s portfolio of geographically diverse solar assets in recent months has been particularly impressive. May and June have been record breaking months, with output at some sites being more than 20% above budget.
