Softwood lumber demand in the US to reach all-time highs by 2030

Wood Resources International has forecast that the upward trajectory in US demand for lumber from the lows of the 2008-2009 financial crisis is set to continue, leading to an all-time high in about 10 years. Overseas shipments have met just 5% of domestic demand during the past decade, but this could need to rise to as much as 35% to meet the forecast increase in demand. This will result in timber supplies being diverted from other markets, such as the UK – where circa 80% of our annual timber consumption is imported.

This is all extremely positive for the outlook for global timber demand and therefore prices.
